■ To extend period of childcare leave to two years to promote work-life balance
LS Cable & System announced that its childbirth and childcare-related support systems will be expanded from August 1 as part of its efforts for family-friendly management.
The changes were planned to support the work-life balance of employees and create a family-friendly working environment.
LS Cable & System will increase monetary gifts for childbirth to KRW 5 million, KRW 7.5 million, KRW 10 million and KRW 2.5 million for the birth of a first child, second child, third or subsequent child and grandchild, respectively. LS Cable & System is the first large enterprise to provide monetary gifts for the birth of grandchildren.
The company’s system for shortened working hours during pregnancy will also be changed. Under the current system, working hours can be reduced by two hours per day only within the first 12 weeks and after the 36th week of pregnancy. With the changed system, however, the two-hour reduction applies throughout the period of pregnancy.
As for the paternity leave, the current paid leave of 10 days will be increased to 20 days. Also, both male and female employees will be automatically eligible for parental leave following maternity leave, without a separate approval procedure.
In addition, the period of childcare leave will be extended. In the past, employees could take childcare leave twice a year for children aged eight years or younger or in the second grade of elementary school or below. Under the changed system, this leave can be taken four times over up to two years.
“A number of family-friendly systems were introduced through this year’s collective bargaining that reflect our management philosophy and the requests of employees,” said LS Cable & System Labor Union Leader Byeon Sang-gu. “Moving forward, labor and management at LS Cable & System will develop systems to overcome the low birth rate and help employees enjoy a work-family balance.
