LS Cable & System has signed to supply submarine cables to the world's first artificial energy island called Princess Elizabeth Island

LS Cable & System announced on the 20th that it has signed a contract with ELIA Transmission Belgium to supply submarine cables worth approximately KRW 280 billion).

The submarine cable will be supplied to Princess Elizabeth Island, which is being built by ELIA Transmission Belgium in the North Sea at about 45km off the Belgian coast. This artificial energy island is a floating structure that will be a link between 3.5GW offshore wind farms and Belgium’s onshore grid to distribute and manage power.

The artificial island, scheduled for completion in 2030, will serve as a hub to regulate energy supplies between the mainland, the UK, and Denmark. Power conversion stations and power grid connection facilities will be built on the island. Submarine cables will be used to connect power between the artificial islands and the Belgian land.

A company official said, “We will be the first cable company to gain experience in building submarine cables for an artificial energy island.” He also added, “We have become competitive in bidding for large-scale artificial island projects planned by other European countries in the future.”

LS Cable & System has recently been making efforts to take the advantageous position for the global submarine cable projects, including the construction of a plant in the US, investment in facilities for LS Marine Solutions, and promotion of LS Eco Energy's projects in Europe and Asia.
