LS Cable & System announced on the 23rd that it will build a new factory in Mexico for bus ducts, a large-capacity power distribution system.
It will have a total floor area of 16,800 m2 on a site of approximately 126,000 m2 in an industrial complex in the central Mexican state of Querétaro. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year and be completed in the first half of 2025.
This will be the fourth bus duct production base following the Gumi factory in Gyeongbuk, the Wuxi factory in China, and LS Eco Energy's Ho Chi Minh factory in Vietnam.
LS Cable & System plans to use the Querétaro plant as an export base for the North American markets, including the United States and Canada. Mexico has the advantage of low labor costs and can benefit from the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
“The bus duct market in North America is growing rapidly with the construction of large-scale data centers and factories for semiconductors, electric vehicles and batteries” said an official of the company. “We expect bus duct sales in North America to reach $100 million by 2030.”
A bus duct contains a plate-shaped conductor inside a metal case and supplies power. Because it is prefabricated, it is easier to install and move than wires, and can reduce power consumption by more than 30%.
LS Cable & System has recently confirmed its plan to build a submarine cable factory in the U.S. and is expanding investments to enter the market early by promoting the construction of submarine cable factories in Europe and Vietnam through LS Eco Energy.
