      ■ Company expected to achieve highest ever performance this year due to rapid increase in global cable demand

LS Eco Energy has achieved its highest first quarter operating profit ever.

LS Eco Energy announced on the 24th that it tentatively recorded sales of KRW 179.9 billion won, an operating profit of KRW 9.7 billion and a net profit of KRW 8 billion in the first quarter of this year.

Sales increased by about 2% year-on-year from KRW 176.4 billion, while operating profit and net profit increased by about 84% and 1,240% from KRW 5.3 billion and KRW 600 million, respectively.

Both the operating profit and the operating profit rate (5.4%) are the highest ever in the first quarter.

“The increase in exports of high voltage cables to Europe and Singapore has led to improved sales and profitability,” said an official from the company. “Exports of communication cables to North America, which fell last year, are also recovering.”

LS Eco Energy achieves more than 30% of its sales from exports. The company recently signed a contract to supply cables worth approximately $30.51 million over three years to Denmark, which is expected to continue to improve earnings.

Lee Sang-ho, CEO of LS Eco Energy, said, “The company is expected to achieve its highest performance ever this year due to the rapid increase in cable demand following the expansion of the global power grid.”

Recently, it was decided that a $99.06 million grant will be provided to LS Cable & System for investment in the U.S. submarine cable business, and the company announced that it is considering building submarine cable factories in Europe and Vietnam through LS Eco Energy.
