■ Contracts signed for all 3 orders for the year; total of KRW200 billion
■ Contract won, beating companies from powerful nations in the cable industry such as Europe and Japan
On July 27, LS Cable & System (President & CEO Roe-hyun Myung) announced that it signed a contract to supply KRW billions worth of submarine cables to Taiwan.
LS C&S signed the contract with Jan De Nul, a Belgian construction company, to supply submarine cables for approximately 130km of the Miaoli County offshore windpower complex located in western Taiwan by 2021.
So far, LS C&S will be supplying submarine cables for all three orders among its 10 or so offshore wind power complex projects.
Taiwan will stop operation of its nuclear power plants by 2025. To replace them the nation is building large-scale offshore wind power complexes.
In January, LS C&S won its first contract for submarine cables in Taiwan, and in early July signed another contract for KRW110 billion. The value for the three contracts so far is confirmed to be KRW200 billion.
President & CEO Roe-hyun Myung of LS C&S said, “The Taiwanese submarine cable market has shown rapid growth, and is becoming a ferocious battlefield among global cable companies located in Europe and Japan, etc. It is significant that LS C&S beat its competitors to be selected as the submarine cable supplier.”
The company announced that its history of successfully completing projects in cooperation with European companies that are leading the offshore wind power industry in North America, Asia, etc. helped win the contract.
Jan De Nul is a Benelux construction company established in 1938. Its main fields of business are offshore wind power complexes, dredging and reclamation, port infrastructure construction, etc. In 2018, it recorded sales of €1.7 billion.
