LS Materials has begun to advance into the lightweight mobility parts market.
LS Materials (CEO Hong Young-ho) announced on the 15th that its subsidiary HAIMK has completed a high-strength aluminum parts production plant in the Gumi National Industrial Complex in Gyeongbuk.
HAIMK was established through a joint venture between LS Materials and Austria's HAI (Hammerer Aluminum Industries), a global top-tier aluminum parts company.
This plant is the first mass production base in Asia to establish a production system for high-end lightweight parts, which were previously concentrated in Europe, and has great significance in terms of supply chain diversification and technology internalization.
The manufactured products are more than 10% lighter than the existing products, despite the increased strength, contributing to the improved driving range, battery efficiency, and collision safety of electric vehicles (EVs), UAMs and other future mobility options.
LS Materials plans to produce parts for internal combustion engine vehicles in response to the temporary slowdown in the EV market. The company will accelerate its efforts to dominate the EV parts market in advance through technological advancement and cooperation with automakers.
The factory is approximately 13,747㎡ in size, which is large enough to supply parts for approximately 300,000 EVs per year. The main products of this factory include ▲crash boxes that mainly protect the body and battery, ▲side sills, and ▲aluminum profiles for battery pack cases (BPCs).
HAIMK plans to begin mass production in the second half of this year, with the goal of achieving annual sales of KRW 200 billion by 2030. This figure is approximately 1.4 times LS Materials' sales in 2024 (KRW 142.1 billion).
“LS Materials is currently in discussions with major Korean automakers regarding supply,” said Hong Young-ho, CEO of LS Materials. “We will focus on high-strength, lightweight parts as our future growth engine and strive to dominate the mobility parts market in advance.”
