      ■ To expand business to maintenance services and target overseas markets with LS Cable & System and LS Eco Energy

LS Marine Solution announced on the 8th that it had entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for offshore wind power complex construction support with Dong Fang Offshore (DFO), a Taiwanese service operation vessel (SOV) specialist.

Based on the agreement, LS Marine Solution will participate in domestic offshore wind power complex project bidding within the year by chartering an SOV from DFO. This will be the first case of an SOV introduction in Korea.

SOVs are vessels that provide accommodation services by connecting to a wind power generation tower for the construction of offshore wind power complexes. Nicknamed the “Five-star Hotel on the Sea,” this SOV will offer premium services by staying on the sea for at least ten days.

DFO is a specialized company that has exclusively implemented large-scale offshore wind power construction support projects in Taiwan. LS Marine Solution’s plan is to dominate the domestic market based on DFO’s operating expertise.

With offshore wind power complexes in Korea built approximately 10 km from the coasts, workers have to commute between the complexes and nearby harbors on a daily basis. When LS Marine Solution’s SOV is introduced, the workforce will be able to stay at the complex for a long time while receiving hotel-quality service.

“For the SOV business, a dynamic positioning system (DP system) for precision location adjustment of the hulls is important,” said a company official. “LS Marine Solution is equipped with unrivaled DP system operation experience and a dedicated wharf, and also has strengths in the field of vessel repair.”

LS Marine Solution plans to enter into a maintenance contract for 15 – 20 years with each wind power complex, and to enter overseas markets in the U.S. and Europe together with LS Cable & System and LS Eco Energy.
