LS Eco Energy (CEO: Lee Sang-ho) announced on the 9th that it had acquired safety certification for underground residential distribution wire (URD) from UL, a U.S. safety certification agency.

With this certification, LS Eco Energy can expand its product lineup for export to the U.S. from its existing LAN (UTP) cables.

Together with LS Cable & System’s U.S. subsidiary, LSCUS, LS Eco Energy plans to accelerate U.S. market entry by embarking on marketing activities targeting power plant construction companies and electric power authorities.

URD power cables are used in various distribution networks, mainly connecting photovoltaic power plants and data centers (IDC). Recently, the demand has been soaring in line with an expansion of related industries.

As the U.S. imposes high tariffs on Chinese aluminum, the sale of aluminum conductor URD cables from countries other than China is increasing rapidly.

The company will secure price competitiveness through production at LS-VINA in Vietnam, and also expects to benefit from U.S. policies to keep China in check.

LS Eco Energy CEO Lee Sang-ho said, “We expect this certification will play an important role in our U.S. market expansion, and help us improve our competitiveness in the global power cable market.”

The export of LAN cables produced by LSCV, LS Eco Energy’s production corporation in Ho Chi Minh City, to the U.S. in the first half of this year marked an increase of more than 30% year-on-year, in line with the U.S. policy of eliminating the use of Chinese products.
